More than 100 hundred million users, featuring at bare minimum 15 million minors, currently employ e-cigarettes, propelling a new trend of nicotine habit, as stated by recent international medical findings.

Minors are, on average, nine times more prone than adults to use e-cigarettes, based on existing global statistics.

Electronic cigarettes are propelling a "new wave" of nicotine dependency, remarked a senior health representative. "These devices are promoted as damage limitation but, truthfully, are hooking kids on nicotine at younger ages and endanger undermining generations of improvement."

Teens Being 'Focused On'

"Countless of individuals are stopping, or not taking up tobacco usage due to tobacco restriction efforts by countries throughout the planet," he said.

"In response to this substantial progress, the tobacco sector is fighting back with new nicotine items, actively focusing on adolescents. Governments must respond faster and stronger in enacting tested tobacco-control regulations," the representative further stated.

The e-cigarette figures are an approximation since some states - 109 in all, and several in Africa and Asian regions - fail to collect data.

Per the analysis, as of this past February this year, at minimum 86 million e-cigarette consumers were adults, mainly in high-income states.

And at bare minimum 15 million teenagers aged 13 and 15 already vape, based on studies from 123 states.

Although many countries have made efforts to introduce e-cigarette rules to tackle youth vaping in recent years, by the close of 2024, 62 nations still had no regulation in place, and 74 countries had no minimum age at which e-cigarettes are allowed to be acquired, says the medical body.

At the same time, tobacco usage has been declining - from an estimated 1.38 billion individuals in 2000 to 1.2 billion in 2024.

Prevalence of tobacco use among females decreased the greatest - from 11% in 2010 to 6.6% in 2024.

For males, the drop was from 41.4% in 2010 to 32.5% in 2024.

But one in five of mature individuals worldwide still uses tobacco.
