The incident led to the temporary shutdown of the Central Terminal Area tunnel and the multi-storey parking facility.

Two men have been charged related to a suitcase robbery where a substance thought to be irritant spray led to people being hurt at the UK's busiest airport.

Tyrone Richards, 31, and Anton Clarke-Butcher, 24, now face two counts of robbery and two counts of administering a noxious substance, as confirmed by court officials.

The charges follow an probe of an attack at the multi-storey car park at Terminal 3 on the weekend. Earlier that day, two women were robbed of their suitcases taken after getting out of a parking garage elevator, police said.

A young child was among those injured in the event. A total of five individuals went to hospital for treatment and were later discharged.

The incident – described by police as was not part of a series and not being treated as terrorism – resulted in train delays and the partial closure of the main airport road tunnel and the Terminal 3 car park for a limited duration.
