Trump Welcomes Families of Injured Guard Members to White House
President Donald Trump revealed on the weekend that he has invited the relatives of a Guard member fatally shot last week to attend the White House.
He added that he spoke to her family and they were “devastated”.
Details on the Devastating Event
Soldier Sarah Beckstrom, twenty years old, was lost her life in a attack on Wednesday in the nation's capital.
Her fellow service member, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, is still in the hospital in critical condition.
Gatherings across the state have taken place in their memory.
White House Call
The commander-in-chief explained he’s proposed a meeting at the presidential residence for the parents of both soldiers of the West Virginia Guard.
“I said: ‘When you’re prepared, because that’s a difficult moment, arrive at the White House. We’re going to recognize her,” the president addressed the press. “And in the same way with him, recover or not.”
Public Support
Community members gathered over the weekend at the high school in West Virginia to honor Sarah.
Both they had been fulfilling duties with the state guard as part of the president’s government program to support public safety in the capital.
Honoring Sarah Beckstrom
“She was the kind of student that educators hoped for. She conducted herself with calm resilience, a bright grin and a optimistic attitude that encouraged those around her,” Hankins, the principal of Beckstrom’s previous school, told the media. “She was sweet, compassionate and always eager to assist people.”
Memorial plans for Sarah are yet to be finalized.
Legal Measures and Policy Adjustments
Law enforcement have indicted a twenty-nine-year-old individual from Afghanistan with a charge of homicide and charges of assault with intent to kill while armed.
The event caused the administration to pause refugee claims and temporarily stop granting visas to holders of Afghan passports.
Status of the Airman
Andrew Wolfe, a native of the city, started his military career in February 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman High, according to the news agency.
He remains under medical supervision and is “battling to survive”, West Virginia governor Patrick Morrisey said on Fox News Channel’s The Sunday Briefing.
The state’s top lawyer the attorney general stated on a news show that she also intended to visit Wolfe’s family.
Memory of Sarah Beckstrom
Beckstrom, from Summersville, graduated from Webster County high school in 2023 and joined the military shortly after, serving as a law enforcement officer with excellence, per the West Virginia National Guard.
“She had a lot of kindness and she definitely had courage,” Morrisey addressed the gathering at the vigil. “Though her time lasted far too short, she has left a mark that’s going to last forever.”
