The Reform UK leader Accuses Teachers of ‘Poisoning Our Kids’ on Race Issues
The political figure stated that educators would initiate walkouts within weeks a success at the polls for his party, charging that they are “harming young minds” by instructing children that African-Caribbean youth are oppressed and Caucasian students are perpetrators.
During an event for a private US Christian college, the politician expressed his viewpoint on British schools, claiming that the “Marxist left” had “now in control of our education system”.
“I’m anticipating a walkout by educators very quickly after securing a victory,” Farage commented in response to questions.
“They are poisoning our kids. They instruct children to be ashamed of their country. They are telling an eight-year-old black child that he is a victim and a white child of the same age that he is a perpetrator. They are dividing us, instead of fostering unity. They promote this harmful mindset.”
In response to these assertions, the head of a major education union dismissed the idea that the education system was controlled by Marxists as “absurd”. He pointed out that any strikes must relate to educators’ working conditions, and questioned whether Reform would attack these right after taking office.
“Farage has built his public life on coded rhetoric and now, similar to other figures, he is lining up teachers and their unions for a fight,” the union leader said.
“I think that’s grossly irresponsible. I don’t – and nor does my union – advocate such divisive theories as he claims … If he were to lead the government he would sell out our public services, including education … and the outcome would be catastrophic for students and learning.”
The party, which is leading the polls by about 10 points, has not set out much detail on its educational plans and seems not to have appointed an education spokesperson.
However, his comments suggested the party would overhaul the educational framework. Farage declared: “We face an enormous task with education – absolutely herculean. Moreover, we can’t do it in six months or a year; it requires years, years to turn this around.”
He stated that gen Z was more open to critical thinking, but older youth were “completely lost”.
Paying tribute to Charlie Kirk, Farage said: “All I want education to do to foster independent thought – to instruct people that there are two points of view and you make up your own mind as opposed to current practices where views are labeled good or bad. It’s a massive job in both Britain and America.”
Reform has previously clashed with a major educators’ organization, after the union leader labeled them “far right and racist” and described the leader as “a poundshop Donald Trump”.
The politician has charged the union head with being “an avowed radical” … an individual intent that young minds be corrupted at school, their thinking tainted regarding national issues” and maintained that the union is trying to indoctrinate youth opposed to his party.
Roughly a million individuals are employed in education in the UK, with educators comprising half and the others teaching assistants and support staff. The major education union has about 450,000 members.
National strikes over teacher pay and conditions in 2023 caused widespread disruption in schools and extensive missed instruction for students.
At the US event, Farage also pledged to help spread the digital courses of the institution in the UK. He stated such groups were “key to resistance”, noting: “I am serious. I will help attract vast numbers of youth to your online courses. I pledge this now and I’ll do that.”
The college, a religious educational establishment, provides complimentary classes. Its website states: “A scientific, literary, theological, political, and moral education is vital for well-being and to perpetuate the blessings of civil and religious liberty. The college furnishes these beautiful courses for no charge to every interested learner.”
