The Red Devils Set to Secure Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich
Manchester United are finalising completing the signing for prolific German striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from Bayern Munich.
A Major Acquisition for the WSL Side
Schüller, who has six months remaining on her deal, has been a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. Having netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing will be seen as a marquee coup for the WSL team.
Her exit from Munich has been anticipated after she appeared to be fighting back tears while applauding the club's supporters following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
Reports in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its leading strikers. According to multiple sources, all the paperwork for the transfer are now finalised.
Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Attack
The experienced striker's signing should represent a major uplift to United’s attacking options. Schüller has been remarkably reliable in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.
- Over seven consecutive seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Building Momentum at Old Trafford
Securing the German international coincides with a period when United appear to be building positive momentum.
Their recent performances feature securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the mid-season window has brought additional business:
- The signing of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since joining in 2023.
On the midfielder's extension, a club official commented: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill allows her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”
The new defender, having arrived from a side from the American league, said: “You can sense how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
