A popular South African radio and club DJ has been fatally gunned down in the metropolis of Johannesburg, causing national outrage across a nation battling entrenched crime.

Warrick Stock, widely recognized as DJ Warras, was shot and killed in the downtown area on a Tuesday afternoon.

Authorities reported the 40-year-old presenter was accosted by three individuals, with one shot at him before fleeing on foot.

The reason of the shooting is unknown and no one has been arrested are in custody, as per the official statement.

The Fatal Incident

Police said that Stock was ambushed as he was exiting a location in the vicinity of the city center landmark.

He had been present for hours at the property overseeing the implementation of safety equipment, which had been controversially occupied by squatters, it was reported.

"It is alleged the deceased was approached by three unknown suspects after parking his vehicle, and they opened fire at him before fleeing the scene on foot," an official report said.

CCTV footage reportedly depicted a man with dreadlocks and dressed in what appeared to be a protective services outfit opening fire on Stock before running away.

The DJ tried to run away after he was shot but succumbed to his injuries on the opposite side of the road.

It was further revealed that Stock had an gun that was not fired and no items were stolen during the incident.

Crucial forensic evidence, like cartridges, were found at the crime scene.

Investigation Ongoing

Authorities have requested anyone who saw the event who may have witnessed the attack to contact them.

"Evidence suggests they covered significant ground after the attack, and police have been following their trail to find their whereabouts," added an official.

Outpouring of Grief

His family member, Nicole Stock, expressed the relatives are devastated to process his death.

"I am devastated. I am shattered," were her words.
"Everyone understood he was a representative for countless citizens. He was a fearless commentator about issues not many people were ready to tackle. This is a tremendous loss."

She requested the public to refrain from sharing explicit content from the incident, saying this was an extremely painful time, above all for Stock's three sons.

Stock was the presenter of Ngicel' iVisa, a television program that premiered on a popular local TV network.

Apart from his media career, Stock was involved in various business ventures, including security provision, providing VIP protection services and protecting prestigious gatherings across South Africa.

He was also reportedly involved in building administration and participated in building evictions.

His murder has sent the nation reeling and triggered an outpouring of tributes from his fans, the authorities and political parties.

A cabinet official remarked he was furious and grief-stricken by Stock's killing.

"He expressed his views without fear or favour. He even challenged me and my actions as a minister. He was a shining model of who we should be," he stated.

A party figurehead commented the "audacious attack of DJ Warras in broad daylight is a tragedy for all South Africans".

A industry leader said that "Stock was far beyond a TV personality. He was a gifted communicator, a true devotee of sound and a generous spirit who brought happiness and vitality to every performance. His artistic passion left an lasting impression."

In a release, the channel he worked for declared Stock was known for his presence, approachability and sharp wit, adding that his legacy "will endure".
