Prince Andrew relinquishes his title as York's Duke.
Prince Andrew is relinquishing his honors, including the the Duke, he has declared in a own words.
He has been under growing attention over his associations with convicted criminal Epstein, with calls for the monarchy to take steps against him.
That now seems to have caused the prince deciding to of his own accord give up his titles and to give up membership of the Garter Order.
In his statement he said he continued to "strongly refute the claims against me".
"In talks with the King, and my direct and broader family, we have concluded the ongoing accusations about me take away from the work of the King and the monarchy," said a announcement from Prince Andrew.
"I have decided, as I always have, to put my responsibility to my kin and country first.
"I stand by my resolution five years ago to step back from public life.
"With His Majesty's approval, we think I must now go a further step. I will therefore no longer employ my designation or the honours which have been granted to me. As I have said previously, I firmly deny the allegations against me."
The royal has encountered a range of issues, such as a legal case he resolved with an accuser, questions about his finances and his association with an accused foreign agent.
He will stay a prince - but will discontinue to be the the Duke, a title granted from his parent, the former monarch.
The prince had already ended to be a "participating figure" and had forfeited the use of his His Royal Highness designation and no longer was seen at official royal events. His role now will be even more reduced.
His previous partner will be known as Sarah Ferguson and no longer the Duchess, but their children will continue to have the designation of princesses.
Prince Andrew has been under intense scrutiny over his links with convicted sex offender the financier, more in recent times involving inquiries about when he had actually cut off contact.
In his television appearance, he had said that he had cut off all links with Epstein after they had been photographed together in New York in December 2010.
But messages sent in February 2011 later surfaced implying that the prince had privately remained in contact with him, such as sending a note: "Remain connected and we'll meet again soon!"
There had been growing displeasure in Buckingham Palace at the controversies that continued to plague the royal.
In the coming days a book released after death by the accuser will be published which is anticipated to cast additional focus on his involvement with Ms Giuffre and Epstein.
