Kansas City Chiefs State They Are Aware of Alleged Abuse Allegations Connected to Wide Receiver Rashee Rice
The NFL franchise released a comment Wednesday night confirming they are aware of domestic violence allegations made public in social media posts by a former girlfriend of wide receiver Rashee Rice and had been in contact with the league office.
The organization omitted the name of the player specifically in their announcement and stated they would have “no further comment at this time”.
Claims Shared on Instagram
Dacoda Nichole Jones, who likewise did not name Rice directly, posted a set of images on Instagram that seemed to depict indicators of bodily harm. Jones stated the person involved was the parent of her kids, and reports indicate she has kids with Rice, whom the Chiefs drafted in the second round.
Official Complaints Reportedly Not on File
No official complaints were on file in Overland Park, Kansas where the incident is said to have taken place.
Player's Prior Off-Field Troubles
Rice was absent for the first six games of this season due to an league-mandated ban for his involvement in instigating a crash on a Texas roadway that left multiple people hurt. He was given a month of incarceration and probationary supervision after pleading guilty to felony charges.
On the field, he concluded the year with 53 catches for 571 yards and five TDs as the Kansas City finished 6-11 and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first time in a decade.
