Battlefield 6's Casual Playlist Sparks Heated Discussions Over Bots, Experience Points, and Queue Times

Recently, the game developers launched a new playlist titled Relaxed Breakthrough. To put it simply, this mode mirrors the standard Breakthrough format but features several notable changes:

  • Every squad includes only eight human participants, with the rest filled by 32 bots.
  • Activities done by real players grant complete experience points, while AI activities provide lower rewards.
  • Just a pair of maps can be played: Cairo Siege and Empire State.
  • Features like Player tags, accolades, and stat tracking have been turned off.

So essentially, this mode lives up to its title: it's a laid-back version of Breakthrough. On the surface, you might think there's nothing wrong, since it gives additional choices for players looking for different methods to enjoy the title. But, gaming history have taught us anything, it is that not everyone will be happy. Which is to say, many Battlefield 6 players are upset.

Community Reactions: Anger to Support

"Gamers prefer real players. Avoid making the mistakes of your competitors," states a response to the official announcement. "Absolutely shocking idea," says a different user. Meanwhile, on the Battlefield subreddit, one user remarks, "It's unclear where we are headed with this game," while another lists all the issues they consider to be broken in Battlefield 6: "Resolve glitches, fix drone glitch, fix IVF rockets, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, improve hit detection. We don't need this AI-heavy playlist."

On the other hand, for every complaint, some gamers sharing how much they're liking the recent addition. "It's enjoyable to practice, real players prevent it from being a complete grind but it's quite laid-back," says a forum post. "The community fails to see that there are players who have lives and can't play this game all the time. Let them find a middle ground," states another. One reply on Twitter explains that as they're "a parent gamer with busy schedules, this is great for me," while another praises the mode for "not being overcompetitive."

Valid Concerns and Player Feedback

Despite the support, there are constructive reasons to criticize Casual Breakthrough. Some users have pointed out that it will make wait times more extended for other modes because of the sheer number of options currently available. Similarly, certain regions often face AI-filled matches in the existing playlists. It also seems a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a minimum number of real players, even though it primarily centers on fighting AI opponents.

Lastly, a major grievances is that Battlefield Portal was meant to offer full XP, including AI matches, but that was removed when they attempted to remove bot farms from the system. So this new playlist seems like the player base compromising halfway, according to forum feedback. Another describes this addition as the developers "dropping the ball so hard, I experienced great enjoyment in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to change it?"

Looking Ahead: Adjustments Occur?

Should the development team has proven anything to date with Battlefield 6, it's that they're listening and responding to player input. Assignments being too difficult were adjusted rapidly, just like the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, if their data indicates this new playlist is underperforming to their expectations, they won't be shy to make further modifications.
