After weeks of tension, schemes and sabotage, The Celebrity Traitors concludes with a thrilling finale
Spoiler alert - This article reveals details from Celebrity Traitors finale
Over the course of the show, viewers witnessed eliminations, betrayals, intense glares, and an unforgettable incident that cut through the overwhelming suspense.
Yet on Thursday night, the final winner of the first Celebrity Traitors emerged triumphant.
Out of nineteen participants, just a handful remained: Traitors and faithfuls competing for the prize.
Before long, the competition tightened to only three contenders: the remaining contestants.
Ultimately, comedian Alan Carr emerged as the winner, in a surprising result that went viral and left him emotional.
"It's been tearing me apart, my apologies," he declared, admitting to the remaining faithfuls that he was actually one of the deceivers. "I feel terrible about this."
"You did brilliantly," they comforted him. "Everything's fine."
Online platforms quickly erupted with this development. "The worst deceiver being the best traitor ever," wrote one user.
"It couldn't have been a better conclusion," wrote another, while a third called it "the TV moment of the year."
The organization he selected, a cancer charity, will receive the entire winnings, with the final pot amounting to eighty-seven thousand five hundred pounds.
Alan Carr's transformation from giggle liability to strategic player was among the most memorable aspects of the season.
But his win still shocked viewers in shock, according to entertainment reporters.
"The thought of him, among everyone, executing an expert performance in deceit felt just as probable as him maintaining composure through his comedy routines."
During follow-up conversations, the other contestants explained the reasons nobody had truly doubted him.
"Alan could have appeared to breakfast in a green cloak and I wouldn't have believed he was deceiving us. I was too busy laughing," a player said.
"The majority didn't vote for him because how does one vote for a person so charming?" questioned a different contestant.
Carr said he had "thoroughly enjoyed" his time on the program.
"I'd like to participate once more... I don't think it would work again!"
Thursday evening's installment was extended to 70 minutes on the network. There was an unusual opening than typical episodes, as all the celebs were aware who'd make it at the breakfast table.
Viewers heard some very uplifting, and very un-Traitors-esque soundtrack, as the episode revisited key scenes from each of the finalists' time in the castle.
As ever, Alan Carr provided unforgettable quotes.
"To be honest, I began this game as something of a nervous wreck. I've betrayed close allies to save myself, I've eliminated beloved figures openly. I'm clearly more deceptive and player than I believed."
Meanwhile, another contestant commented that reaching the conclusion was "significantly more pressure than playing for England", while another said he was "totally surprised" to have made it so far.
Early on in the episode, various contestants appeared to be attempting to become the new style icon of the castle, taking over from the previously eliminated style leader.
Carr emerged at the morning meal looking like a vintage television personality in a checked maroon suit, later switching into an embellished light-colored outfit.
However, he got out-jacketted by a fellow player's burgundy formal wear. Impressive style.
Following this was the challenge, with the final players boarding a locomotive called - naturally - The Traitors Express.
This task saw them ripping up portraits of eliminated players. Spare a thought for one participant who managed to get hit in the head multiple times by the cover of a heavy wooden box.
Before long, it was time for the roundtable.
Two traitors did a pinky promise beforehand, pledging to stick together. "We've progressed significantly, I'm not going to betray him," said one, while the other simply laughed.
However, one did stick to his promise. Yet, managing to stay unnoticed for the majority of the competition, their partner still got the most votes.
The remaining traitor looked like to be experiencing significant distress to be the last traitor standing. "Being alone, I'm frightened," he said. "I'm a loose cannon, without direction."
Social media and onlookers were equally disappointed.
"I hoped against this contestant to be banished. An endearing deceiver," said a commentator.
"You will forever be remembered in Traitors history," wrote a different viewer.
But there was no time to focus on their elimination. Soon, they were at the endgame - this being the moment everyone anticipated.
The last players stood over the fire pit. And the alliance collapsed, just when it mattered the most, in an absolutely shocking development.
One contestant was painfully banished - after a shock vote from their ally, who betrayed them.
"It hurts to be betrayed at the final moment like that," remarked the eliminated player. Subsequently, we learned that if they ever communicate, the betrayed player calls their former ally as a traitor.
Ultimately, only three contestants remained in the game: the last participants.
A contestant, appearing quite pleased, chose to conclude the game. The same decision was made by another, and it all came down to the final participant, who did the same - which meant that the deceiver emerged victorious.
According to commentators, the moment where the other players consoled the champion was "beautiful TV". "I anticipate it could be in the running for memorable moment at next year's awards," they said.
Fortunately, the winner soon recovered from his bout of tears, and was able to enjoy his victory.
"Such an emotional journey. I thought I was terrible at deception, my expressions gave me away and here I am the champion," he said.
He also joked about that infamous murder - his best friend in an early episode - by reaching over the host in the concluding moments and touching her cheek.
"There's something on your face," he said, with his trademark giggle.
The recent episodes of famous people scheming, plotting and the occasional unexpected moments may seem like a bizarre fantasy. Yet it actually all happen. It will be remembered fondly.
